Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) has triggered far-reaching changes in all areas of society in recent years. The introduction of ChatGPT at the end of 2022 in particular marked a turning point: for the first time, AI technologies are accessible to the general public. The ability to use AI intuitively - to ‘talk’ to a computer almost like a human being - arouses enthusiasm and offers enormous opportunities, but raises ethical and social questions.
This article examines the historical development, the current ‘hype’ and ethical criteria for AI, especially generative AI in the school context. We invite readers to critically scrutinise the potential and challenges of AI and constructively discuss its meaningful use.
